“White Collar Crimes”: This is really a mislabeled term, but generally refers to financial crimes that are not committed “hands on”. Examples would be embezzlement, real estate, securities or other major fraud, and corporate crime. In many of these instances, it is difficult for the prosecution to determine who is responsible for a financial loss or whether the loss to the victims is a result of a crime or some sort of breach of contract. Cases of this sort always require a thorough examination of a money trail and business records, as well as interview of witnesses. I have handled this type of criminal case. My thrust in this type of cases is whether the prosecution is able to prove the charges in what is often a complicated paper case.
